Meet Odile

Some things are
worth keeping alive.

Since 1995, Odile has kept the same sourdough starter alive. Now, she’s sharing a little of it with you.

She also teaches bread classes at the library, helping home bakers find their way around flour, water, and time. The Heritage Starter Kit brings that same spirit of sharing into your kitchen: a portion of her dried culture and a recipe card to begin with.

You don’t need to carry thirty years of experience. Just a willingness to start, pay attention, and let good things take their time.

One kit. Your own beginning.

Flour, water, a little patience

A beginning, not a race.

Sourdough is a living thing. Give it care and time, and get to know it as you go.

First

Wake it up.

Your starter arrives dried. It needs to be rehydrated and fed before it’s ready to raise a loaf.

Then

Find your rhythm.

Keep feeding it and watch for activity. Every kitchen is a little different; let your starter set the pace.

And finally

Make it your own.

Once your starter is active, use the included recipe card to begin baking. Keep a little starter to feed for the next loaf.

A few things you might be wondering.

What exactly comes in the kit?

A dried portion of Odile’s sourdough culture, which she has kept alive since 1995, and a recipe card to help you get baking. The kit costs $24.

Can I bake with it straight away?

Not straight from the packet. Dried starter needs rehydrating and feeding until it becomes active again. Allow time for it to wake up before you plan your first loaf.

Is this for new sourdough bakers?

Yes. The Heritage Starter Kit is made for home bakers, and the recipe card gives you a place to begin. Sourdough takes some attention and practice, but you don’t need years of experience to start.
